New Books, Comics and Zines at No Guts No Glory!

Thursday 7th June

The No Guts No Glory shop of late has been a busy hive of new arrivals, this week we were pretty chuffed to receive copies of Make A Zine, Fight 2 and the brilliant Furry Faces!

Sometimes making a start on a blog is super hard, words evaporate and scarper before they’ve been fully formed, doubt and fear creep in and for some reason the book or magazine you’ve been raving about in full vocabulific glory can only be descibed as “Great!” That’s why we were so very glad to have the first of this weeks new arrivals to hand: Make A Zine – when words and graphics collide!

This book is a wonderful fix-all inspirational toolbelt. Covering all aspects of Zine making in an easily digested, fact-packed and humourous way! Full of great tips and sound information on writing, formatting, distribution, promotion, sustainability and even dealing with tricky subjects like pricing and libel. It’s also full of extensive lists of reviewers, zine distributors, stores and zine fairs – hopefully we’ll be able to add the NGNG zine fair to their list someday!

Written by zine experts Bill Brent publisher of BLACK SHEETS Zine and Joe Biel who started the not-for-profit collectively run Microcosm – a zine, book and record distro and publishing house based in the USA.

What’s more Make A Zine is super value at only £4.99! Pop into the NGNG shop to pick yourself up a copy!

Next on our arrivals list is Fight 2! The eagerly awaited sequel to Jack TeagleJack Teagle\'s Fight! Part of the Nobrow\'s excellent Serial Box graphic novel project where individual artists are given an open ended opportunity to create a set of serialised comic\'s!

Fight 2 follows the continuing struggles of Diablo, a friendly and meek wrestler, who had the misfortune of being born with red skin and horns. He is forced to play the role of a villain, but throws in the towel after he struggles with the abuse and ridicule he receives from his appearance in the ring and on the street.

Diablo is brought back into the ring to Fight one last time, and he is pitted against the mysterious ‘Eyeball twins’ who are intent on making an example of him under the watchful eye of the menacing but tiny manager. Diablo manages to win the fight by the skin of his teeth, and his life is turned upside down. He is now regarded as an unlikely hero! Diablo finally gets treated with respect. Diablo’s rival, Saviour, is less than pleased with Diablo’s image U-turn and we soon see that he isn’t quite the squeaky clean hero he appears to be.
